John Howley, Esq. is a trial lawyer with a track record of exceptional results in significant cases. He represents clients in sexual harassment, discrimination, wrongful termination, and retaliation cases and as whistleblowers who are eligible for financial rewards and legal protections.
Mr. Howley has been awarded the Medal for Excellence in Advocacy by the American College of Trial Lawyers, The Thurgood Marshall Award by the New York City Bar Association, and the Gideon Champion of Justice Award by the New York State Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He has also been named one of New York’s SuperLawyers.
Among his accomplishments are:
- winning an $80 million settlement in an employment discrimination class action against Sodexho Marriott;
- winning more than $5 million for nurses who were not paid the proper wages;
- winning $1 million for a live-in nanny who was sexually harassed by her employer;
- helping dozens of whistleblowers earn large financial rewards while protecting their reputations and careers.
Before founding The Howley Law Firm, Mr. Howley was a partner in one of the largest corporate law firms in the country. For 20 years, he represented Pfizer, Citibank, Texaco, Sony, and other multinational companies in their most important lawsuits, including arguing in the U.S. Supreme Court. Today he uses all that experience to give individuals the same high-quality and aggressive representation.
John Howley graduated from Skidmore College and earned his law degree magna cum laude from New York Law School, where he was Articles Editor of the Law Review. During law school, he served as an intern to U.S. District Judge Kevin Thomas Duffy and to former U.S. Magistrate, later U.S. District Judge Shira A. Scheindlin.
Upon graduation, Mr. Howley served as a law clerk to Judge Roger J. Miner on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. He then joined Kaye Scholer LLP (now known as Arnold & Porter Kaye Scholer), where he became a partner in the firm and chairman of the firm’s pro bono committee.
Mr. Howley’s commitment to making a difference extends to his volunteer work. He has served as a Trustee of The Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, as Vice Chair of the Skidmore College Board of Trustees, as Vice Chair of the Northfield Mount Hermon School Board of Trustees, and as a Trustee of New York Law School and the Commission on Independent Colleges and Universities. He is Chairman Emeritus of the Philippine American Chamber of Commerce, Inc.
